OPC UA Java SDK Release 1.2.2

This release includes performance and reliability improvements, especially on the client side, so we recommend that you update your applications to use this version as soon as possible.

On server side, the custom node manager support is finished and the Tutorial also explains how to create a custom NodeManager, without using any in-memory UaNode objects. The SampleConsoleServer also demonstrates this in practice.

OPC Day Europe 2011

Prosys sponsored the successful OPC Day Europe 2011, which was held at SAP headquarters in Germany. People showed a lot of interest towards OPC UA and also to Prosys offerings at our booth.

A total number of 210 attendees from all over Europe joined the event where the key members of OPC Foundation presented the current status of OPC UA standards and where several companies demonstrated their commitment to OPC UA and how it has been incorporated in their products.

The key message of the day, outlined by Thomas Burke, President of OPC Foundation, was that "OPC UA is real". OPC UA applications are now running in production and more and more products are becoming available at increasing pace.

The event was organized by OPC Europe, a joint group of European OPC Foundation members. OPC Europe has become very active in marketing OPC UA in European trade shows and events and will focus on sending out the message of the capabilities and new possibilities enabled by the OPC UA communications and information models.

We want to thank OPC Europe, lead by Stefan Hoppe, President of OPC Europe, accompanied also by Jouni Aro, Prosys, for realising this great event.

OPC UA Java SDK Release 1.1.2

We have released the results of important testings of the last months. The SDK was tested at the OPC Foundation Interoperability (IOP) Workshop in Nuremberg and in general it was found to be working fine already, except there were some problems in the Java Stack with the .NET clients, using certain endpoints. This release contains all those fixes, so we recommend that you update to that.

We also made internal changes to the standard UA Node implementations, especially related to Condition Type nodes. The memory consumption of these nodes was found to be pretty heavy, but we managed to decrease that around 90%.

Also a number of other important issues have been fixed and improved.

OPC UA Workshop 2010 hosted by Prosys

Prosys hosted a developer workshop together with ascolab GmbH and Unified Automation GmbH at the end of October, at Prosys headquarters in Espoo.

Developers were given an efficient two days of introduction and hands-on guidance to both client and server development, regarding all major OPC UA features from data access to alarms. The sessions were based on the extensive material and sessions lead by Matthias Damm (ascolab), the lead architect of Unified Automation C++ SDK and main author of the OPC UA AnsiC stack.

"We got very good feedback", says Jouni Aro (Prosys), the main architect of Prosys OPC UA Java SDK, and a main contributor to the OPC UA Java Stack. "'Excellent' was the single word given for the expertise we provided, although we had even too much to work on two days".

The workshop was arranged in context with the annual OPC Day, arranged by the Finnish Society of Automation. So the participants could again get a full three days of OPC UA knowledge from the top of the OPC UA world.

The workshop was already the second in series, and the success of these events shows that Finnish developers are very interested to be at the front row to embrace the benefits from the new OPC UA standard in their applications.

Stay tuned for the next release, which will include the results of these tests as well as other improvements!

Full test results should also be published later at the OPC Foundation web site under
